Re: Mixed frame rate video clips on the same Blu-ray disc

I’ve never had an issue with mixed frame rate Blu-ray discs I’ve created via Encore on any combination of Blu-ray player/TV I’ve tried so far here in the UK, but I suspect that’s probably true for most PAL countries.

What would really be interesting is someone from the USA performing the same test as follows.  I created a Blu-ray disc with two 30 second clips using Premiere Pro authored via Encore (with a simple menu to choose the title).  Each clip simply displays a title saying what it is, and a time code.  One clip is created at 25fps, the other at 30fps.  I can then determine if the Blu-ray player is playing the title correctly (or transcoding it internally) by frame by frame analysis of the time code.  Similarly, I can see how the TV handles the video input.  I’d assume that all modern Blu-ray players and TVs would play anything you throw at them.  I would see no advantage (in fact the opposite is more likely true) to a manufacturer deliberately handicapping a Blu-ray player or TV to restrict the video formats they can use.  Apart from country specific electrical regulations, I’d imagine the bare bones chassis of players and TVs alike to be identical.

Anyone care to try it out?

Steve
